"I'm thinking a lot tonight about callouts and the Jungian Death of the Ego and how apologizing and surrendering to a "cancel"/callout is essentially begging to continue being seen as your previous False Self after having your hidden authenticity exposed.

So much of modern socializing is behaving in some level of performance, a sacrifice of some part of Self in favor of social acceptance and/or popularity. When aspects of ourselves leak out, though, we may face backlash, and we have to choose whether to remain authentic or not.

When Jung speaks on individuation, he speaks of the dangers of dissipating into the environment around you if you do not remain "hermetically closed" during the process. I think this is where a lot of people end up, dissolved into their social spaces in favor of acceptance.

The tactic of the modern social panopticon is to essentially spy for a crack in your vessel and rip it open, forcing you to be exposed to the world. That's what "cancels" ultimately are, and we are forced to remain present in ourselves or to dissolve into the environment.

However, as Jung says, transformation occurs when one accepts their situation. The journey of individuation involves remaining aware of yourself, contained, in control of the Self regardless of the environment around you. However, when modern socializing demands performance,

One essentially may experience a form of Ego Death in having to face down their Authentic Self beneath the carefully curated False Self. Behind all the filters and performative politics, who truly are you? Do you stare into yourself or do you look away? That's the choice."
