one thread and one shorter post crossposted from my nsfw twitter (as I periodically delete those).
both somewhat on the topic of thought crime discourse, taboo art, and a warning to younger folks given my past background ..
this goes into some deeply personal territory I'm not going to talk about online, but fundamentalism is not just a right-wing thing. I see quite a lot of fundamentalism from left-wing circles, right down to that concept of Sin. it's just slightly repackaged (even shame...)
I've talked about how I used to be a typical fundie neo-con. the biggest mental break came from the realization that I had not *agreed* to that original Sin. I was damned for doing *what*? nothing? damned before birth? it's a subtle tool for gaining unilateral mental control.
(mind, I don't believe throwing the baby out with the bathwater with religion. but that's [gestures at a million miles from here]. Faith has gotta be accepted with sincerity. this wasn't it.)
since then, i have paid close attention to people who start attempting that type of control (it often comes from where you least expect it from. causes that morph from a good one into mob rule, former friends, authorities who nudge you into doing The Right Thing, etc).
if there is one takeaway: pay attention to the power dynamics in your life. those who *seek control* over you and who/what you interact with rarely have good intentions.
I need younger folks to realize that taboo art is very often an act of resistance and survival for folks who are closeted, to this day.
