I remember in high school art class, my teacher wanted me to do some Jackson Pollock style splatter painting. I wasn't interested in it. Didn't like the idea of dripping paint over a canvas. He told me I could use anything, not just canvas, so I thought about splatter-painting my jeans or my sneakers, but in the end I just grabbed some of my mom's empty beer bottles and splattered those. I had no choice in colors. I had to use whatever leftover house paint we had in the garage. Medical, pastel colors that my mom had insisted on and everyone else in the family hated. Mint green and gumball pink.
For years I couldn't understand why my high school teacher loved those beer bottles so much. He kept them when I wanted to throw them away.
