Oooh that's a good point about Matrix being a slightly more modern bridge in between those technologies .... i was thinking IRC since it was more lightweight/possibly simpler (almost kind of like studying technology from how it was first made to get those historical quirks, if you know what i mean?) but that may also be a substantial trade-off in some ways for the UI, especially when it comes to other people...
