This post kind of lodged in my brain. I thought about it more and I think the trait causing peolle to describe things as narcissistic (or like...arrogant/over-confident or whatever. If I'm understanding your meaning right) is actually just "opens you up to mockery". I think the internet is such a mockery based space that it's easy to reflexively avoid saying or doing (or thinking!) anything that can open you up to mockery. Which includes most statements that allow one to have a healthy self-conception. Like, that one is particularly good at something. Etc. So if you spend too much time online it's easy to cringe away from any of these statements, exist as an unobservable unremarkable traitless creature with no attack surface
