🎶 Last song I listened to: it has been a while since i've listened to music, actually! i was thinking about gary numan's 'my name is ruin' last night so i'll probably throw that on while working this afternoon. there is a good 50% chance it's either one of the silent hill soundtracks or some obscure EDM like dead is calling.

📺 Currently (reading/playing)watching: i don't watch tv, but having loads of fun slowly working through final fantasy XII (zodiac age version on the switch) ~

other than video games i try to read 75-ish books a year; readme.txt (Chelsea Manning) and The Design of Dissent were the last two read. recent two years with the cataracts have been terrible for my book goals but i think i'm actually going to make it this year.

🌶️ Sweet/Savory/Spicy?: savory on average; but a "light" savory like sushi rather than a "heavy" savory like southern casseroles if that makes sense?

❤️ Relationship status: recently single again, focusing on other stuff for a long while.

🤩 Current obsession: unexpectedly fell back into fire emblem (fates specifically) this past year, and with fe9's 20 year anniversary coming up next year i want to do something really big and special for my favorite game of all time. it's probably either going to be a standalone physical doujinshi or tarot deck. hellsing's my other main fandom that never quite goes away, but it's on the back burner for a bit.

okay so: they play the song "cars" by gary numan at work periodically and every time they do, i think of my name is ruin. it's always wild to see what artists just keep making music over the years, and it's just so funny to me to hear cars at work and connect it to his cool but different later music.

now *that's* a name/(song track) i haven't heard of in a long time, haha. agreed - super cool when an artist has been low-level prolific for a long time, or took a break in the middle. genuinely cool that he's still clearly having fun pushing the envelope now.

Also, my family and I often joke that Southerners would do just fine in Puerto Rico on diet alone (we have really greasy diets and foods) but in googling that southern casserole, I'm giggling over that comparison again and hungering for a taste because wow, it looks good!! XD

Puerto Rico foods sounds exactly like home there <3 what's your favorite dish? I bet we could find a cousin, of sorts, in Southern food :D

and the 'design of dissent' book is totally worth it! I will say i was generally expecting more context with each piece (it's very much a "coffee table art book" with lush spreads) but there's a great writeup in the back. one of those that is much better read physically than digitally, imo.

Oh dang, I don't know what's my favorite...more like, it changes once in a while LOL I'll mention pasteles: usually a Xmas food, they're basically tamales except better (I said what I said). (But also, not really like tamales but it's the equivalent, for sure.)

We have a famous route in the town of Cayey, Guavate, that's become a popular tourist destination in recent years--with good reason! Besides seeing roasted pigs old school, you get an entire course of food. My mother's family is from the town, so we would go every Xmas XD

But I think you'll see how our food is very fulfilling, since a lot of it was originally by the poor for the poor, especially workers in the field.

bwahaha that famous tourist route earned its place with the food, i'm sure. :3 honestly -- traveling for food makes the most sense since you can kinda see most famous places with pictures/videos/zoom tours these days but you can't replicate the true local food from 300 miles away.

(gosh those videos are fantastic, thank you for digging those up - learning how sofrito is massaged into the pork... seeing how the stores in the last video feel so keenly like some great bbq shops in florida (shoot some of them were probably manned by puerto ricans)... food truly is the shortest way to the heart!! i hope you get the absolute best pasteles this upcoming holiday year. <3
