....... i think i just headcanon'd zihark's fursona as a fucking swordfish lol

:PPPP (i blame you lovelies in the doujin circle)
mind, i am not particularly furry-adjacent even though i massively respect them especially with the history + creative juices of the subculture! that said i have had a lot of fun thinking about which animal i'd be symbolized as and it'd definitely be some kind of small lazy lizard - the current icon is reflective of that.
so when the doujin circle started talking about animal symbology/jokingly fursona-ur-characters/ur favorites it was.... real fun! thinking about some kind of unusual critter that feels apt for zihark. i tend to think a lot about symbology in illustration and character design already, and the immediate vibes from him i get is something cold blooded, slippery, fleeting, some kind of fish rather than a furry mammal. he's got a lot of cool watery colors (versus warmer colors) in his palette to boot.
(side tangent there's probably something to be said about me / my taste in characters that would be so bold to immediately describe him as cold when that's not typically a positive. (honestly, it is for me? one of my other long time favorites, walon vau, is also somebody that's extremely commonly described as icily patrician/calm. something about preferring these types because so many people are irrational and react too quickly at every-bloody-thing versus just letting things sit and observe them a bit. far more comforting imo.)
narrowing it down, definitely a predatory lithe, lean larger fish; not quite as full scale as a whole-ass shark, but something that isn't afraid to bite even though that wouldn't be the first instinct of his; it's something in the toolbox. eels have specific connotations that were close but not quite (slightly more manipulative/insidious on the surface even though they're quite shy?) but when i started scrolling through some articles on swordfish the "highly migratory predatory fish" line clicked because he too, is quite highly migratory across the games. i also think of his motions as very quick, lethal small vicious slashes rather than heavy stabs or elaborate swordwork. letting the enemy bleed out and being pragmatic with attacks.
(it only belatedly occurred to me a friend pegged him as a pisces rising a long while back and i went 'ohhhh' out loud just then. clearly fate was giving a little nudge there too.)
anyway.
... it also doesn't hurt i still think the sword-fish pun is funny as hell lmao.
