ahaha, have done the exact same thing with the tags in the past, especially early on, it's gratifying to know i'm not the only one. :D
(totally feel you with the not-your-own-hobbies ... it's one of the huge ways dreamwidth feels so richly different than social media sites - much harder to get isolated in a verrrrry narrowly specific bubble; feel like you get to see the 'human' in people a lot more.)
and god, right with the sanitation of media? it's very hard to feel like there's villains out there that aren't a caricature or have all of their claws removed - imoe the Major (and his squad) in hellsing was so successful *as* a villain because he was such a charismatic evil motherfucker at the same time. pretty sure a good half of the anime in the 00's wouldn't be able to get made or not-canceled these days, honestly.
