to your point, i swear there's a period in the teens and early twenties when having Those characters as an ear does more to be a real solid mental anchor when everything else changes than anything. something about a zone that doesn't judge needlessly, but can snark back at a tempo you're comfortable with ... shit's needful. and extremely conductive to writing when one's trying to figure out the big themes in life too.
