(context - they were lightheartedly 'investigating' him as a competitor in the ninja festival since Navarre was too scary (lol))
Hana: ...
Laev: ...
Zihark: Oh, Hana, Princess Laevatien! You too look a bit glum. Is there something wrong?
Hana: Ah! Z-Zihark!
Zihark: Whoa! No need to be spooked! Now what happened?
Hana: Well, you see... Oh I'm sorry, Zihark! We were just investigating you and we-
Zihark: Me? Why investigate me?
Hana: Well, since we're dressed as ninja, we wanted to do something that felt properly ninja like... And we thought we could get an advantage in the tournament too...
Laev: But we discovered more than we intended... About your past. About your former lover..
Zihark: Ah. Well there are some around here who already know all about that, I suppose... (A/N: !!! that'd only be Muarim in canon proper, interestingly. )
Hana: We're sorry for digging into your past, Zihark! We didn't intend to investigate your love life ... Oh! I know how to fix it! If we just hit each other on the head really hard, we'll forget about it, and-
Zihark: That won't be necessary. But I'd recommend not investigating into me any further, all right?
Hana: Of course. Again, we apologize. We brought painful memories to the surface, I'm sure...
Zihark: No need to worry. It's not as if I want to forget her. I treasure the time the two of us spent together. Even now I wrap myself in those happy memories whenever I can. Maybe I'm just the nostalgic type.
Laev: I understand.
Zihark: We must have something in common then... but still! A festival is no place to be so gloomy. We should enjoy it!
Hana: You're right. Thank you, Zihark. I'll see you at the tournament. I'm bringing everything I've got.
Zihark. Then I'll be sure to do the same. I'll look forward to it! For now, I'll be on my way though. See you!
(he fades)
Hana: Phew! We're lucky Zihark is such a kind person.
Laev: He reminds me of my sister. Kind, understanding of others' pain and incredibly strong...
Hana: That's true. It's a particular kind of strength I'd like to aspire to... We both use swords, after all! Though I don't get the same kind of respect he gets...Well, I guess I'll just have to beat him in the tournament! Let's go give it our best, Princess Laevatien

i am so glad the writers made that one of their better conversations and that they mentioned his lover... ;a; that was beautiful. sometimes they tend to play a little fast and loose and jokey with some of the characters with a 'gimmick'. but i've always felt one of the strongest points of his characterization (and really PoR's cast characterization) was the sheer layers - but with him you get the funny smartarse layer, you get the deceptively ... ruthless vigilante one, and then the incredibly kind one as far as handling grief with real grace as featured here ...
