very belatedly janking this brand spankin' new meme from queenlua - ''scenes that have lived in my mind rent free' :D 
(mind, clearly not the best ones or the most tasteful ones for that matter.) 

• tim curry and the whole goddamn 'toxic love' song with hexxus in ferngully ... in the middle of this derpy chripy slightly preachy twee (if genuinely cute and like, badass at moments) movie about saving the tweees!!! there's ... this like... nameless blob of smoke-pollution that sexily, sensually croons to you about D E S TR U C T I O N  with the one intent to seduce every goddamn five-year-old's id like a ticking time bomb lmao.  my only question to animation execs is how the fuck did it manage to escape the boardroom for a kid's movie ('hellfire' is also like... right up there for the same reasons)
• jin-roh's climax in the sewage pipes.  oh man.  beautiful, deadly, poignant. the rawest experience of a hunter (and tool) hunting prey.
• can... i submit.... an AMV... .nay, the AMV that got me into hellsing (that is still somehow online omfg). it's so lovingly 90's and cheesy and a shitty distorted mirror of what hellsing has to offer on the surface, but in the weirdest way, it's the most spiritually, visually resonate package of the series i've ever seen. 
• in hellsing ultimate there's also this one scene after the hotel massacre - team of swat dudes attempt to take down alucard with the expected results lulz - and there's this one soldier that's on the floor dying out as alucard approaches. "you're a monster!" "so I've been told." - and then gunshot.  alucard's enraged (and so very complicated) expression at the suicide is ... [chef kiss]
• brave little toaster's 'worthless' song will haunt me til the literal end of life, ngl.
• eastern promises - watched this film at such a weird time in college; it's this gritty, violent and fucked-up as fuck russian mafia film with viggo mortensen that was probably the best thing for a very-not-great headspace that only spoke in Survival terms at the moment (and also appreciated this hot silver fox daddy of a hunk good with knives and nude bath scene bloody fighting). it's this scene, however, that does it - (spoilers) the dude's just barely crawled out alive, the living dead from the last of his competition in the mob to emerge as the new head ... he's sacrificed his entire existence for this thin sliver of ... bringing cynical justice to past wrongs? and it's the dead-eyed stare he gives to the police commissioner that does it. he knows he's a tool for people and institutions that don't give a shit, and he's forever marked as being on the wrong side of the line. and does it all anyway. "for poetic reasons, i suggest you take his blood." still gets me a decade later.
• there is this very specific laugh that jafar does in (2D aladdin - and weirdly enough there was another scene with him and jasmine that uh very narrowly entered this list more for awakening reasons lmao); he's just been arrested, his plans have gone to shit, iago's freaking the fuck out - but it's that kind of blink-and-you-miss-it rock-bottom absolute absurdist hysterical sort of seething loosing-it that is #a mood

there's a bunch i'm missing from end of evangelion and majora's mask in particular, but those are the ones that still ring as contained scenes after looking them up.
