so there's a thing that happens sometimes where ... i'll read a genuinely funny comment/tweet via my third party feed reader. sometimes it's ever so vaguely edgy, but also real enough that it gets a snort honk from me (which is so rare!), so I'll click through to reply/tweet back -

aaand it gives me a 'this tweet has been deleted / comment removed by poster'.

it's not often, mind you, but every time it happens (and it's non-zero)...

idk it's a gut punch for how visibly we're self censoring, these days.
(and I'd be right there if I didn't have this journal.)

I try to stay off of twitter and tumblr as much as possible these days (...try) but I see the self-censorship on AO3 a lot. Routinely I go through the tags I like and try to find weird/rare pairings and kinks, and a lot of times I'll find crazy good writing hidden in some "problematic" tag ... so I'll bookmark it, and the next time I check my bookmarks, it's been deleted by the author. Someday I'll learn to actually download them -_-

ooof. been right there recently after trying to track down a fic with a specific trope in my bookmarks and it wasn't there ... so that's what happened.

I'm glad you commented - probably a good idea to set aside some time to mass-download the bookmarks. Have been doing it with fanart for a while, and it's silly not to do it with fics too.

I'm glad that at most, all I have to do is just change the privacy of something but I can always change it back if I feel like it. I don't have to delete anything. u_u
