Jun. 15th, 2021 10:21 pmswear to god, if I'm ever teaching a gaggle of middle schoolers or thereabouts how to code, I'm telling them make a fanshrine about Their Thang (anime character, niche hobby, niche soapbox of rants, whatever), and letting them loose.
I'm not exactly a rank novice with HTML but boy there is nothing like four thousand br / tags and 'ahhh fuck do i put an equal sign or a semicolon for width tags' to actually be able to sit down and crank it all out. A fanshrine (other than my own site) is probably the only thing that could get my focus for this.
(anyway, fanshrine (WIP) is slowly but surely being picked at still - About page is done other than a doodle I might add, Radiant Dawn script mostly formatted and I'm starting to fill in the images for FE Cipher/Heroes/etc. I'm not really feeling the urge to draw for a bit, but this is a nice 'creating an actual thing i've always meant to make long-term' project for distraction in the meantime. I underestimated just how many appearances this dude makes. :'D;;; )
(which is mind boggling to me, and my teen self that made the fan club for him on deviantart in uhhh 2007? vividly remembering scraping the entire JP/EN sides of the internet for any new information or fanart, and it was a happy month that somebody made a doodle in some obscure JP fanart site, let alone finding a piece of concept art or something.
there's a post going around on tumblr that goes into just how ... different it was, pre-internet in terms of actually being able to find information and how incredibly huge access of information was as a game changer to changing opinions. Obviously this is less important, but in that brief set of ~15 years of web 1.0, you had to hunt for things, man. I find myself almost resenting the fe wikis in an incredibly shallow sort of way, that it has all the information "just right there'.
