- first things first: i GOT THE PROMOTION!!!! :D officially a Sr. Designer as of this past Friday, ahhhhh. Sr. Designer at 30! took me eight months of politicking but ... it happened... and my boss + his boss were so excited and oh so so complimentary. ;a; said some really lovely things about how they loved working with me and they threw in some extras that they don't normally with the promo package because of my "exceptional work ethic and you being such a joy to work with" (!!). i actually really enjoy the company (as much as one can like Capitalism lol) between the work, flexibility, and the current immediate team, so yeah, will likely be staying there for the next 2-3 years minimum unless if a dream job passes through. got some Plans on rebooting one of our main brands with more of a character focus, so the ambition is eagerly looking forward to the increased muscle to throw around. :3
- might be nuking my (new) windows laptop and officially jumping over to linux. : o (Kubuntu being the distro i'm leaning towards rn - if anyone has personal experience with it, would love to hear it!) asked a question over on mastodon (my favorite place to get tech support since so many hackers are over there lol) about wishing I could "rent" a linux to test out and they mentioned bootable USB's. d'oh. completely forgot about that. Seems like some distros of linux can handle paint tool sai + old versions of photoshop (CS2-CS5 is all i care about) + and the mac-like zoom (necessary with my shitty eyes - apparently Plasma has this!!!). given i despise the "spyware" that calls itself win/mac ... yeah. you know what? excited about this. a little apprehensive that i'll be out of my depth but like, i knew a reasonable amount of google-fu to run wine ages ago back in college so ... here's hoping ...
- with apple's scanning-on-your-phone news and honestly kind-of-disappointing experience with win10 (them also scanning all your files and also not exactly being the paragons of privacy) i keep wanting to throw it out the window every time it asks me for a permissions change lol. at least if i fuck up the installation i can just redo knowing my main
12 year old workhorse is still alive.
- health wise mostly out of the worst ... i don't want to jinx it because i keep solving one thing and something else comes along ... got the ear
technically the implant re-mapped to fix electrode facial twitching (long story...) solved ... then my neck is feeling weirdly sore but apparently that's a semi-common symptom after the virus so i'm choosing to believe it's mostly that since that's the one thing that's changed recently and not the all-seven-cervical-vertebrata-fused-with-my-ribs-hellscape past coming back to haunt me twenty years later in a weird way (you see... why my anxiety spikes every time something the least bit goes wrong xD). and then the glaucoma pressure (long standing issue) still has to stabilize but one thing. at a time.
september's tentatively looking a lot better than august... here's hoping....

Date: 2021-08-29 02:15 am (UTC)I'm currently dual booting Ubuntu and Win10, formerly used Fedora (though I wouldn't call myself proficient), and yeah, you can test out live OSes on USB sticks, so could be worth checking out. My main advice is just... thoroughly adhere to the instructions, and if anything isn't immediately apparent, look it up because there's bound to be other noobs who are just as confused. LOL
Fingers crossed for your health! Just reading that description made me wince, wow.

Date: 2021-08-30 07:48 pm (UTC)and enjoy your dive into linuxland + feel free to hit me up with q's if you run into any... kubuntu is a great distro & usability on all the mainstream linux distros has gotten way way way better in recent years; given your level of technical know-how i imagine you'll be able to get by just fine :)
