kradeelava few days ago i did an art meme over on the nsfw art twitter account - mirroring over here to save for long term as I like to keep it tidy with 100% art posts, and also figured y'all might appreciate reading through. :>
here's the starter:
1) architect dad had me drawing pretty much from the get-go, though didn't get serious until middle school.
2) I draw (/for) my Muse - there's a sense of peace(?) there I don't get anywhere else. not to say kink art/zines/etc aren't fun/important ... but it's not my refuge.
3) I'd actually like to "not" have a fave drawing style; imo technical mastery is being able to go the whole range in stylistic/art direction without losing your voice. this style tho? v fun in a textured, id-design way, wanna push this more.

4) less "fav artists" and more tone/style influences. I say that specifically as I'm leaving out a lot of design, visual, and more philosophical(?) influences that wouldn't be as "aesthetic" as a photoset, even if these are accurate.

5) i don't feel,,, great,,, about individual pieces (or more recent pieces to be honest) but this one ... this one's an exception.

learned a LOT about myself; discipline, storytelling. making characters strangers give a damn about. figuring out fucky pages are fun. etc :3

9) I screenshot compliments and save them for moody days; they're all a delight. (tumblr tags are pretty funny tho.)
10) why_not_both.jpg with mediums? I like creating zines precisely because they blur the definitions. digital art just works for me re: eyesight/speed reasons.
11) [shrug] my most meaningful works have been self-inserts in fanart sketches. I don't care for arbitrary categories, man.
12) (I used to immensely dislike my lineart which is a little humorous given my output now.. one of those 'hate it so much you get good at it' things.)
13) 'baby censorship bootlickers' at overreaching puritans of any generation when I'm feeling salty. grew up being told my (sfw!) work was sinful; a thought-cult is a thought-cult whether you're fundie or progressive queers. (I find the southern fundies more tolerable, frankly.)
14) imo riffing/style studies are a natural part of discipline - ya gotta know your limits to decide what you don't like! "copying" without internalizing the stylistic lessons shows in poor technical ability (which is a very different thing) but I find frequently conflated.

15-17) if the Muse is there, I keep drawing. I may not *post* for a while, or even have "art winters" that stretches for months (it's a cycle), but he's always coaxed that creation-desire back unfailingly. I've learned to stop questioning it. :)
18) 2009 OSX laptop + PS CS5. hoping I can go back to CS2 + SAI on kubuntu after the migration. i miss that feather icon, dammit.
19-21) Not relevant. Do want to stretch more "environmental" muscles soon; I have a hard time thinking of sets beyond immediate composition like vv
22) villains, boots, guns, wiggy dynamics. which suspiciously reveals in a lot of licking lmao.
23) went to an art school as circumstances allowed (/were forced), but not worth it. Learned far more illustration-wise making a webcomic, and career-wise via internships/contracts.
24) b/w because i'm lazy :D
25) y'all remember people on dA posting WIP's on their front page? i miss that.
26) next time I take (tellius) requests is likely during FEH's CYL next January. :v i am absolutely stooping that low re: art 4 gacha votes, yes.

Date: 2021-09-27 09:11 am (UTC)"copying without internalizing the style lessons" yesss exactly. watching people copy a painting, for example, as an assigned exercise (like in high school art classes) without ever realizing "oh hey the original artist used colored linework for a reason" or "ooh I should use this type of brush in order to get that effect, nice" = frustrating as all hell. idk if that was exactly what you meant now that i think of it, it's like 5 a.m. here lmao. i have a sudden urge to go draw some oral sex.
