good news: i found an IRL linux guy with 20 years of experience who likes a challenge!

bad news: even he can't figure out how to get kubuntu on that cursed laptop so far LMAO.

(i feel bad for him but also slightly relieved that like,,,, clearly this was beyond me and wasn't just a 'have you tried turning it off and on' derp moment. :'D  i swear this is a thing that's happened before - every time i escalate a "really weird" bug that i can't solve with a week of google-fu, it's something that veteran support guys have never seen before.)

worst case scenario is i'll probably donate that asus laptop and go with a different piece of hardware that is guaranteed to play better with linux (or maybe even has it pre-installed?). sux to have $$$ go down the drain, but eh! not giving up!

Well if it gets Linux up and running for you you can think of it as an investment rather than a loss! But I def understand the desire to want the thing to just work on the laptop you already have! XD honestly I’m probably in need of a new machine myself but I’m just way hesitant/lazy to make the move. (So many brushes, fonts, programs to reinstall and move, uuugh. After a while your computer is kind of a nest in and of itself and it can get really cozy!)
