sorry i've been weirdly quiet lately, talky brain just shut all the way down temporarily outside of work meetings, but what i HAVE been doing for the last week ...

prepping for that paid (!!!) workshop talk i got invited to (apparently they forgot to tell me it was paid lul)

chilling on /r/NCD because it reminds me of the better/online-poisoned-in-a-funny-way parts of /k/ except less racist cussin' (win win)

did u know Ferenc Pinter (god tier italian illustrator/designer that i'm 99% sure was a bootfucker fetishist lol) had a tarot deck? me neither and oops this'll be my second tarot deck :')

downloading every scan i can get my hands on from Ayami Kojima's black jack doujins from a different pen handle b/c dr. kiriko gives me a feral fictional bishie boner in an all consuming 'want to eat the sleazy fucker alive' way that i didn't even know i still had in me since sephiroth :D;
- i haven't even watched black jack but i have audibly lol'd that my id somehow hit on the military anesthesiologist which is kind of on the deeply ironic free spot of 'is this dinging the kink or the trauma part of your brain' (yes) (but like, in a delicious way lOL)
- like just look at this slurpee dinner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a BIG Blackjack fan since my early adolescent years and I would definitely recommend watching the OVAs. They're very chilling in terms of seriousness but also just up your alley: gritty, dark, sometimes dealing with war, sometimes dealing with death, and of course lots of medical details.

I used to be obsessed with the time warp memes on deviantART lol. Glad to see your Zihark love started young! I'm amazed you found your first ever drawing. That must felt like digging up an ancient relic.

looks like the OVA's were about the time era with the art style that appeals to me the most - thank you genuinely for your rec, gonna queue that in next time my mind's looking around for something to nom on ~

I absolutely love both BlackJack and Kiriko myself. I never did watch Young Black Jack but maybe I will one of these days. I remember just really liking the OVAs despite being out of the target demographic-- I want to say I was around 12-14 and found it hauntingly creepy but really interesting.

Getting a little personal here but I think one of the reasons why I really enjoyed it is because I've always had a lot of anxiety about medical injuries/maladies and death, but it was presented to me in something I loved (anime) so it felt like I was micro-dosing my anxieties in a quasi-therapy way.

you know, your comment got me to start the 1993 series (if that's the one you saw) and oh lord, it's so good. thank you so much again. :D

100% to the idea of microdosing through anxieties with anime, it's so reassuring to know that somebody else does that too! something about the fact that stuff as close and personal as medical stuff is drawn and in two dimensions versus live-action (can't do shows like House; MASH is pushing it) really does help kind of with that emotional separation while still allowing such nuanced topics.
