Up to Raise the Standard (Part 1)

* late stage fridge horror as i contemplate if there's any fics on Nico facing survivor's guilt about how Micaiah healed him ... but Jarod basically killed three villagers right in front of him just to try to go after Micaiah.  Oof, that'd be heavy.

* sothe is a funny boy, omg. 'maybe it was the mounds of gold calling you, micaiah! :D' got another genuine sputter laugh out of me. I hadn't realized the subtleties of his characterizations before ... how he can wax poetic on his memories of serving in ike's gang (truly seems like a really heartwarming and maturing experience for him; I daresay it was his found family other than micaiah. if I was the freudian type, I'd almost even say the dawn brigade is his subconscious attempt at building that again.)

* likewise his observations. bet few other than laguz-sympathetic scholars would've known about the children of wisdom/strength line.  oh how I wish he had a support with nolan and zihark.

* 'sothe's my (pause) ..... brother........' line to Meg, lmaooooo, her looking at both of them like 'uh? whatever that is? nah' (arrrgh i really wish meg had more personality than the current in game shtick. at least ilyana had some damn good lines in between the hungry thing and the shippy thing. like there's nothing for me to actually pull off on. at least Fiona you can sorta guess at some things re: her background.)

* edit: after sleeping and thinking idly for a touch on Meg, you know what's cool about her? That she managed to have the tracking skills to effin find somebody who is very used to covering his tracks from vigilantes, not to mention almost successfully sneak up on Sothe and Micaiah to boot.  You know, Mr. veteran lurks in the shadows and a literal mind reader?  Meg's got brass balls, I'll give her that.

* really really actually ship micaiah/sothe this run. : o  there's a subtle sort of long-standing camaraderie you can actually feel in the script, that instinctive trust in how they don't have to spell out everything, and anticipate each other's actions easily. plus there's a sense of like ... knowing where each other's raw spots are (most of the time), and actually being at the point where they're willing to have raw/vulnerable spots with each other. it strikes me as 'long term relationship' vibes, easily.

* god i forgot how beautiful the desert of death was, and how unique that sorta terra-cotta vibe was.  Grann desert was much more ... washed out yellow, and ceaslessly flat and I don't recall any other similar terrain in the tellius duology, but the fact that East Daein had a very distinctive sort of old-ancient ruins feel along with terrifyingly high canyons with that is stunning ... not to mention laguz ruins, so that sort of sense of ... 'otherworldly/bigger than us' vibe would be hella strong to any stragglers there.  gah why are desert maps hands down my favorite map of any kind of game.

like ... THIS horizon? breathtaking. surreal.

* nailah has hardcore bi/domme vibes. heh. Also god damn did i ever wheeze again at the 'dog' line to Volug and Micaiah's 'is she always this ... blunt?' line. This game is way snarkier than I remembered.

* played so much FEH recently i genuinely forgot mages have "1 range" as well as "2 range", aka a tiger nearly bit off Ilyana's head but she nuked him oops lol.

* zi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D  :D : D : D   :D

* god i still remember when i saw him here, again for the first time. <3  went in completely unspoilered. oh this game did him so good. And his art too... Somehow this level of all levels was the easiest one this time around (I remember having so many issues with it in my previous playthroughs). Managed to get Sothe to talk to Zihark, even - Sothe picking at 'all this time and I never knew you were Daein. :/' and Zihark's desert dry 'That's because I never told you. :)".  oh man.  oh man. I'm dead. :D

* this is making me super damn nostalgic for Uprising (tl;dr first webcomic that i attempted on jill/zihark/tauroneo finding Pelleas (and Izuka) and the events right before this game).  I .... really should write up what I had intended to do for the plot.

Raise the Standard itself is a little bland/long gameplay wise but i'm just enjoying the sensation of like ... forgetting all of my old muscle-memory tactics and ending up having to go with completely different ones. Either I'm way worse at the game or it's much harder than it used to be??? lol.  Currently raising Zihark/Jill/Sothe/Micaiah as the P1 Tower folks. Other guarantees would be Titania/Shinon/Haar ... kind of a mostly OG Daein team? Tempted to bring Tauroneo along too...

so there's a thing that happens sometimes where ... i'll read a genuinely funny comment/tweet via my third party feed reader. sometimes it's ever so vaguely edgy, but also real enough that it gets a snort honk from me (which is so rare!), so I'll click through to reply/tweet back -

aaand it gives me a 'this tweet has been deleted / comment removed by poster'.

it's not often, mind you, but every time it happens (and it's non-zero)...

idk it's a gut punch for how visibly we're self censoring, these days.
(and I'd be right there if I didn't have this journal.)
