writing this idea down outside of my journal For Reasons:

there's two point-n-click visual-novel-y games i've had in mind for a year now, one ero-survival-horror one with original characters I'll keep mum for now, but the other one is based off of this hellsing episodic idea i think i mentioned very briefly here before.

the tl;dr is it's post-OVA timeskip; Alucard's back with the group, integra's still young enough to go on the field, and the hellsingers have answered the mission call of "go eradicate some sketchy looking vampires from an oil rig in the bermuda triangle" , and end up running into Cthulhu instead - like, this is not a very complicated story XD  more of a 'i know (almost) exactly what's going to happen but the execution is so much fun and a nolstagia blast i'll keep watching' kind of thing.

the visuals, I'm thinking as almost ... either this combination of full "hand drawn characters + hand drawn backgrounds" a la path of radiance's sprites ... or "hand drawn characters, third person PS1-looking backgrounds a la path of radiance's overworld map" but just maybe shamelessly ganked from MGS1 (again) (listen that game still slaps). so either no, or minimal "choices" (other than like a secret ending?), just this interesting hybrid experiment that's less taxing for me than a movie or even a comic. under 10 waist-up sprites, a few different expressions, 5 cutscenes or so, a script that's the size of an average oneshot fic... it's a Project, aye, but it's not ginormous.

godot as a game engine looks p interesting (and on linux too yay!) and after squinting at a few tutorials, if I keep the story short, this feels like a pretty doable "demo" of dipping my toe into games and seeing if I like interactive stories / would want to do the slightly longer ero-survival-horror one. (it's also semi-intentionally crafty, marketing wise; keep the hellsing one free b/c of i-don't-own-the-characters-obviously reasons, higher chance of that one going viral, get people confident in the execution of the story for the other one.  idk!)
