I've been seeing a few reddit alternatives pop up given the clusterfuck going on the parent site, naturally.

lemmy was one such alternative that was mentioned a lot that I looked into briefly. Given my niche interests (erotica art, fujoshi circles, tech and gaming), wasn't super hopeful about finding friendly sub-sites there, and didn't see any yet, nor did [personal profile] tempural who has similar interests, and who I trust. maybe in the future?

that said i've been testing ~tildes (https://tildes.net/) more seriously for a day or two, and personally find the culture fit lovely. it almost reminds me of the best world between hackernews and reddit, plus a sprinkling of usenet personalities.  I can honestly see tildes replacing my off and on decades+ HN habit; there's something more humanistic there that's appealing, while still feeling like it's a useful "front page of the internet" per week that could be a companion to DW.

pluses of tildes: calmer, warmer, better moderated, simpler than lemmy, there's at least two dedicated sub-sections for art and creativity.
minuses: much tinier and invite only; if you're looking for reach it won't be here. also possibly a strong, tech-heavy bent that still borrows from reddit culture if that's a turn-off.

tildes remains invite only but I think I have some invites I can spare, if anyone's interested!
