kradeelav: Dr. Kiriko (amused)
was re-hooking up my ear battery charger after arriving at the grandparent's house and it kinda struck me how rad it is that i'm like.... simultaneously made out things-that-need-to-charge-biologically (like y'all, with food and sleep and various enrichments) and things-that-need-to-charge-electronically (more like a laptop than a human).

like it's so mundane. it's an act that i do literally every night and would feel way weirder not doing than doing. it's on the automatic list to do whenever i arrive at a new place, like - unpack clothes, hook up the ear battery charger, hook up the laptop, etc.

it's also so mundane i call the implant "my ear" as shorthand slang. it is - i ain't hearing otherwise. 48 hours with no electricity and i'm up shit creek there with the batteries spent (though I can awkwardly lip read to some extent and there is technically disposable batteries).

but being significant-parts-machine ... it's an othering signifier, and one i've had to work through, but i like the explicit bare steel that it gives now. there's vague metaphors-and-emotionally-cousins-to-my-fondness-for-unrepentant-villains there. behold, something to fear and respect. making the other party blink first is kinda fun in a morbid way.

this body fucks man. i've spent a lot of brain cells worrying about things falling apart (and oh they do, spectacularly & costly-wise and it is so fucking annoying lol, much like when you get the one error message on a very quirky linux that you cannot solve) - but.

idk it's the little shit that's sometimes so neat.
