reading the stars of fictional blorblos time lol

this'll be another snowflake post that ultimately got me to do this challenge this year... aka "Challenge #4: – Add something to your fandom's canon"

this one's a little unorthodox, as i recently asked taureancheer what zihark's astrology (sun/moon/rising) signs would be :D
without further adieu ...the signs, context, and transcript:

zihark's astro signs:
libra sun
pisces moon
pisces rising

the context:
I wanted to know his signs partially because I had been arguing with myself for literal decades, and wanted an expert to weigh in once and for all. personally not what i'd call an astrology geek (it's so fake, said with love lol) but i do find it fun in the sense of looking at character patterns, and teasing out some very interesting character flaws, habits, and patterns that I would not have noticed otherwise.

taureancheer/chira (astrology ko-fi here, lots of free articles available) is a longtime dear friend who's the expert at divining out those patterns and has an extremely entertaining, engaging, and thoughtful way of highlighting those strands in a way that makes emotional and logical sense within the system.

the reasoning:
the easiest way for me to put the info out there is to copypaste chunks of the transcript when we were talking through this. this isn't the whole transcript as the relevant bits are substantially condensed to explaining the choices for his signs (and also annotated in bold for this post). please don't take anything here literally or personally, as it's a casual convo between friends.

krad
[just gave a few paragraphs long the infodump about zihark; trying to keep it strictly to game scripts rather than extrapolating personally.]

chira
dude's a libra lol
might as well have written about libra as a sign

krad
at least sun? :o

chira
sun for sure, though maybe moon, need to know how he emotionally is for that. moon governs how you digest emotions or process them, rather than how emotional you are.
how do you cope with heartache and sadness and all the like

[few more exchanges on clarifying, gave some RD examples of battle quotes like with lethe and such]

chira
I just remembered this is FE's character writing so there isn't a whole lot of clarity to work with, sun is still super libra that much is obnoxiously clear. moon would either be in virgo or pisces though it's hard to figure out which
rising... would probably also be water, he's pretty opaque.
though from process of elimination he's not really subdued enough to be cancer and he doesn't seem to be radically controversial as scorpio
so probably pisces rising?

krad
interesting you mention both virgo and pisces for the moon considering they're technically opposites, huh.

chira
and yeah it's that axis
both pisces and virgo would be serviceable/altruistic in their emotional processing and also kind of "empty"
I put "empty" in quotes because it's not really

[me victoriously fist pumping the air when i mentioned pretty much the exact same thing in the Ghost in the Dunes author's notes]

virgo cleans the emotional space to a point where there's only blank left so the presence of emotions feels messy
while pisces kind of lets emotions flood to the point it's just water in a tank so it's kind of meaningless
so the presence of emotions feels like something's draining

krad
curious about the pisces rising part too, though, and how that'd differ from the moon :o

chira
rising is the persona and impressions of someone
it's not their personality so much as how they come across
and how other people size them up
think of it as, like, spiritual fashion lol
it's the clothes you wear when you walk out the door
fashion statement projects an archtype to work with, right?
so with rising it's like that but with vibes.
all water risings have an opaque demeanor about them that makes the person behind it extremely hard to read or perceive
the defining characteristic of water is that it's obscure and constantly shifting
so which water sign kind of indicates which flavor of "hard to perceive" it is

chira
pisces meanwhile has no guard or offense, they're just fish in the water. So the water itself is the obscuring element
like when you think about trying to see fish in the water it's not the easiest thing to unless the water is crystal still
so pisces rising has a kind of opalescence to their demeanor where if you squint from your peripherary you can catch glimpses of a real personality but it also could just be you projecting
pisces rising folk tend to come off as "blank" and "head empty" despite having very strong demeanors or opinions or seem to blindside you with something unexpected

[I didn't mention his PoR supports with brom and ilyana here, but both of them strikes me as a good example there where people were slightly blindsided by his thoughts]

and because of that pisces rising are also seen as kind of stupid or easily exploitable lol
very easily pitied
because they come off either slow or unawares
like if you think of a standard femme fatale and how it's easy to just want to rescue her despite a lot of very strong flashes of a real personality that may say otherwise you get the gist

[skipping a little more, conversation briefly was talking about our own rising signs]

chira
if your guy has pisces rising then libra would be in his 6th house? the moon would be on the virgo or pisces axis I'm pretty sure but I don't know which. could be both from what you're telling me.
virgo moons tend to keep their feelings to themselves unless they're in the middle of something, in which case they get extremely critical and nitpicky
(at themselves or things around them, usually the former but not always)
have a hard time stomaching criticism and prone to neurotic overthinking
pisces moon kind of has weird reactions to their own feelings, it's not clean by any means. Like, if they feel happy they may do something self destructive
if they feel angry they may be extra nice
if they feel kind they may pull your hair
that kind of thing
the feelings they have and what they express don't always line up in a rational sense
both moons though are prone to escaping their own heads
"I don't want to think about me so I'll think about you instead"
which is why I say his moon would be on that axis
it's using the service/altruistic streak to the outside as a means of avoiding his own bs. conveniently focusing outside of himself so he doesn't have to think too hard
pisces and virgo moons are motivated to deal outside of themselves - virgo in the sense of "I'm too big of a mess to figure out but cleaning OTHER people's messes is really simple"
so they focus on imposing(?) on others as an excuse to get out of their heads. it also is how virgo emotionally processes best though the act of organizing
pisces meanwhile is just "nothing about me makes sense but OTHER people are simple to figure out"
so they overempathize with people around them and very understanding while their life is a trashfire lol
like the dissonance of someone who seems wise beyond their years but also have no sense of order
but empathizing with other people is also how they emotionally process best
because it simplifies the complex
if he's a pisces moon it'd either be in his 12H or 1H
suppose 1H would make more sense, if it was in 12H I imagine he'd be way more self sabotaging

krad
1H almost being ... new beginings of the cycle, versus the collapse of the old order, so to speak? :o

[ some more minor conversation, then I ask for a general recap on what libra, especially libra sun is like, since krad is personally more familiar with pisces being a pisces sun]

chira
oh libra is evil for sure LOLall the air signs are chaotic but libra kind of has the gall to be charming about it
libra rules over the stuff like judge, justice, equality, harmony, peace
the balanced scales and all
in reality they're normally the cause of the discord of all those things. like, think of using the scales to weigh something before balancing them again
ergo the whole "judging" thing
it's also the sign of the lawyer if that needs any more proof of their evil lol

[irl laughing considering my fondness for villains. :P guess zihark fits the pattern after all (very tounge in cheek)]

[I'm also quite pleased considering one of the very first scenes in Ghost in the Dunes outright says this explicitly, with the judge/jury/executioner line from him to Nailah.]

libra in the zodiac is the 7th sign and the one where an "other" is introduced. Everything after libra has signs that are more externalized or about how they relate to other people
while 1 through 6 is more focused on their own development and how the world relates to them
so libra being the scales they "balance" themselves to whoever they're opposite of
they equalize to people
they are known to being socialites and extremely charming. like, natural charisma.
they're also known to be signs that can't operate without an "other", they need some sort of opposite to balance themselves with, so they're also known for being relationship-oriented and overly romantic
but this I personally think is an oversimplification
it is true that libra is compulsive about needing an "other" to balance but it doesn't necessarily need to be romantic, or even longterm
if you think of a lawyer, for example, their job is to represent their client
they exist to support and benefit someone else, it's not really about them

[If that isn't woven into his entire connection with the laguz ...]

they're also known for being bad decision makers
because they take forever "weighing" the pros and cons
they need to hear ALL sides to EVERY story before making any kind of conclusion
they will refuse to take a side until they feel they got all the factors

[irl grinning again here considering how zihark flip/flops through the whole P3 of RD, and he's canonically the character that can that has the opportunity to betray the player the most times]

krad
(u have no idea how much this is making me internally lol)
('OF COURSE' i mutter)
the indecisiveness strikes, eh?

chira
they almost feel they never got all the factors lol
"don't make me commit to something when there's still parts of the picture I still don't know, my mind could be changed!!"
that's probably the most maddening thing about them lol
libra is really shy about owning their conclusions because they kind of treat conclusions as permanent judgements, they really resent making a call and then learning postmortum something that would've changed their conclusion completely
and they have to walk it back
for some reason they hate having to walk any of their calls back, they rather pre-determine literally everything, make a call, and then live with it
libra are also natural hypocrites
they're the most justice oriented people but the key with interpretting libra (esp libra suns) is first fact checking what their understanding of "justice" is
because how libra interprets fairness matters a lot. they all think fairness is a universal quality and they LIKE to think of themselves as above bias (because they are OBJECTIVE and look at ALL SIDES and remove their roll--)  but obviously they're delusional lol
so a libra might think the sense of justice is, like, MRA shit, that men have it the worst and they need to get one up over the womenz. Or a libra could feel like being passive aggressively petty is a way of righting the scales
like, hey, gonna let the air out of your bike tires, deal with THAT
libra kind of see themselves as natural arbiters and representatives of karma, that's why they're evil
because nothing's more corrupt than thinking you're the moral superior right lol

krad
tendency to be completely, shamelessly self righteous and on a mission, lmaoo
the ends justify the means strikes me as a line that's somewhat applicable to libras, in that sense? :o   less the execution, but the judgement of it.

chira
or 'all roads to hell are paved with good intentions'
final note is -- I touched on how a libra's sense of justice is relative on which libra you're dealing with. well, that's the thing itself right
that "justice" can be argued
libra is the sign of debate and narratives
it's not really about if the situation is judged fairly, but how you interpret the events or the evidence
consider defense attourneys with a guilty client trying to argue a narrative why with the existing evidence they're not responsible for their crime
the argument isn't about the crime, it's about which narrative of the crime should be concluded as correct and official
the prosecution has their narrative, and the defense also
and there's people to judge which narrative wins
libra love to argue everything and play the devil's advocate
they're that obnoxious asshole taking the worst side just to put yours to the test
not because they believe in it
but because they can argue it better
so a libra is a sign that determines how a person or a story is delivered

[I can't help but think this is so applicable to how he goes back to Daein and tries to stick with it for how long he can, despite all the odds and bloodshed otherwise]

krad
one of those signs that can get carried away with their love of the debate and forget the real calling behind it all and/or that judgement really does mean something physical and tangible? :o
(there's something that feels - distantly piscean about parts of that, interestingly - the interpretation of events/people. 'there's always two sides to a story' sort of line.  extremely not the judging part tho. )

chira
not one of those signs, it's The Sign

krad
oooh :o
(also slightly hilarious to me for charcter-specific reasons lol)

chira
and yeah pisces relates a lot. people say the 7th and 12th houses are the "crazy houses" lol
the descendant (7th house, libra) functions as the anti-asc
I mentioned that asc is the persona, so how people read your demeanor
the descendant is the shadow of that, where the judgement of others are imposed on you
or you're particularly faulty unless you have someone to equalize the house
like, if you have cancer rising and taurus sun for example
the capricorn descendant would kind of inspire a systematic determination about you. cap especially since it's governance it's like your sense of person is justified by a bigger machine you can't fight against
so even if the taurus sun is someone who is very unflappable and chill, they'll be known as someone overemotional and hard to tolerate
in your case, leo rising with aqua desc would inspire the imposition to be read as someone who thinks they're really up their own ass about their own sense of self and pretentious lol also a contrarian or someone looking to be a menace out of protest
it's not necessarily untrue but it is obviously the worse possible read of what otherwise would be objective traits
libra and controlling framing and narratives etc
like, "up your own ass" in one framing could easily be "knows their own self worth" in another

krad
interesting! one of those 'how folks will be seen by enemies' kind of thing - not always a given, but the 'go-to' unflattering descriptors kind of thing :o

going back to libra - the "judging" part, (whether or not it's actually desreved?)

chira
yeah it's the house of enemies
it determines the kind of enemies you have and how they'll characterize you
ergo why it's known as one of the crazy houses
because if you got any planets in there then those planets are villainized
god help you if you got your sun in there
because sun has its fall in libra in the first place
and it's in the descendant lol
but the main thing to remember about libra is libra never really think of "themselves" as a self
they think of themselves as "we" or "us" or "you" or "them"
"I" is -- not a foreign concept, per say, but adverse one
they know who they are best when they are working opposite of someone else
they are known to be duplicitous and liars a lot btw because of this

[If this doesn't describe the guy to a T when he was working with the vigilantes in PoR, and then later on when even Sothe didn't know he was originally from Daein...]

and also known for cheating a lot lol
in the most obnoxiously hypocritical way too

krad
(traitors is another word i can see fitting very well there, heh.)

chira
"the person likes me so much, what do I do, say no? that's rude"
"obviously I have to please them???"
they're not like pisces in that they lack a clearcut ego. they do have a distinct identity
but they match that identity toward someone else
think of the person you know who kind of absorbs all the interests and hobbies of whoever they're dating at the time
because it becomes a "us" activity
"we" do this together, and all that

[end of transcript -- I can't help but think that last part is so interesting considering his hard time from moving on re: the laguz lover, and how that may have been a hell of a lot messier than at first blush.]

anyway ~ had a lot of fun with that and felt so vindicated given it lines up pretty neatly headcanon wise. :P It's nice to have the validation that your mental reads on characters feel on point.
