okay i gotta talk about some of the awesome shit in Tears THERE'S SO MUCH.

spoilering for this game is hard since you have total freedom of where and when you want to do it. so here, i'll leave the vague region unspoilered, and then this post on my journal page will have black text on black for the spoilered bits. it's not perfect if you want to go in completely blind, but it should still keep the spirit of the event a lovely surprise. (if you comment, all I ask is to maintain the same spoilering policy, danke in advance.)

 

• so i finished the (dungeon/temple of the northwest area) wind temple last night, and you know what's cooler than stone tower? flying around STONE TOWER WITH FRICKIN LAZERS. twelve year old krad went ape shit over that area. granted, stone tower still wins in my mind for having the most indescribable creepy armageddon-y moodiness, but that was one hell of a creative! proper! dungeon!
• also that boss fight was. WHAT. THE FUCK. i had finished doing the little locks, walked back over to the middle of the ship, doot deet doot, was expecting something in between twilight princess' sky boss (cool concept, but a little cramped/hardcore limited by the hardware) or some gremlin that flew around in the immediate area while you played tennis with it. NO. OMFG. WHAT DO WE GET. THIS BOSS THAT'S BIGGER THAN A FRICKIN LEVEL THAT SHOOTS WALLS OF TORNADOES AT YOU AND YOU HAVE TO KAMAKAZI DIVE BOMB THROUGH IT. i had to restart like three times because i was so low on cold-resistent elixirs, but whewww that, that was a win that made you *work* for it.
• there was also a truly hilarious serendipitous brick joke involving two different places: i was exploring karkariko's well somewhat recently and was SO skittish through the whole thing expecting a redead around all the corners of that mini maze, given the nightmare that well was in OoT and this game in particular likes making callback nods. (wind waker's redead below the cabana traumatized me for redeads in unexpected places XD) in there, literally JUMPED a few times. anyway, ultimately there's nothing there other than a really cute emotional moment i get out and i'm all like 'eh that wasn't so bad, there's probably no jump scares in this game.'
• literally the next destination i choose? guredo town (because that was the one area i had heard nothing about, total black box, and i want to at least vaguely know the details before i get spoilered online). anyway, you get there, to the town. first thing i see: oh man, what's that weird dead looking skeleton in the corner, let me poke it with a stick, possibly a trophy of the gure-AAAAAAHHHHH IT'S A FUCKING ALIVE REDEAD. y'all. i fucking screamed. XD ran all the way to the well all 'shitfuckfuckshitshit, oh shit i'm in the well WHAT IF THEY'RE MORE HERE'. literally a horror game moment right out of anmesia: the dark descent. i think what really got me is that historically zelda series had this understood rule of 'no enemies near NPC's and especially in a town' so it took me completely off guard. absolutely sold that 'guredo town is a literal war zone with a cramped emergency shelter' and oh btw the redead/gibados come out of FUCKING WALKING HIVES'. this temple is going to be so much fun, fuck. i have no idea what they're going to do. redead hive queen? literal the mummy/resident evil reenactment?

• another pretty hilarious non-spoilery moment that happened while i was dicking around in hebra mountains is after climbing this massive cliff, i get ambushed by this bobkin riding this massive black bear and go "IS THAT A BEAaaaAAAAAA- (gets OHKO bitchslapped right off the cliff in the middle of saying that) XD
• (in hindsight i vaguely remember that was a thing about BOTW but i'm in this sweet spot of 'almost no memory of that game other than the vaguest notion of where the big stuff is for example the great plain in the beginning', so it's almost like, one whole ass new game.)

anyway it's a good thing i'm only able to play this in 2 hour chunks because my body gets SO SORE from being so intensely stiff/focused lmaooo. (looking back to my 15 year self able to play OoT in like, six solid hour chunks without moving.... how....)

i'm watchin my gf play it and she's been...adamantly avoiding plot the whole time in favor of fucking around. she finally did the first dungeon type thing, so she progressed it a little, and it did look real cool, but i wanna see more plot!

reading your lil posts has been a fun hint of things i'll see while i'll watch her play as i'm unworried about spoilers. (also, it's fun to know about the things she's gonna freak about in advance. I love knowing when things will happen!)

Hahaha the whole game is so distracting, I feel for your gf! Literally just finished the third dungeon while an office mate zoomed through the plot in his first week so, relateable there. XD

Hope it's been a continued delight for y'all - without spoilering, there's definitely more curveballs along the way.
