Still in development, but word is that mastodon.social blocked aethy the instance in the last day or two. (https://aethy.com/@angelfeast/110815177983296337) Don't have confirmation yet on what it is, but I have heard all non-fandom instances are blocking anything that allows lolisho to which. weary bark laughs. exactly why I will stand hand in hand with lolisho artists until the end!

Iiiii am highly likely going to migrate my (mastodon.social) account to aethy in the short-term, if that's the case, or (more likely) finally fire up the baraag pocket account; will decide after work and figuring out if I *can* migrate straight to baraag from social or not.

Less relevant to y'all here, but I know there's a non-zero amount of you on the site and it's more of a FYI in case if you lost a substantial set of mutuals.

i am ... wearily annoyed! very, very annoyed (much like that one death of stalin gif), but not surprised, per se.

This is one of the biggest problems with fediverse stuff, the huge lines that are drawn by mass instance blocking... At least even on twitter you can see everything and choose for yourself to block or not. Fediverse makes it so the instance owner can decide for you if it's safe :P And why it's actually really important to choose a home instance with an admin who makes choices you agree with...

I said "non-fandom" instances in my posts about why Aethy is blocked, but really there are fannish instances that do the same thing because they import blocklists that conflate "allows actual CSEM" and "allows nazis" with "allows naruto porn".

I think the safest home instance currently is blorbo.social, because they're still federated with a lot of normie instances like mastodon.social or mastodon.art, while also allowing people to follow each other from misskey.io or aethy but restricting the images (meaning you don't see avatars or images unless you manually go to the post and click to download the images). Not sure if blorbo blocks/restricts baraag?

A lot of the other people I know that use Aethy are saying they lost all their Mastodon Social followers so that seems to be the case. Admittedly surprised it took that long.

As a side note, I ended up joining Misskey.io to check it out and use it to follow Aethy and Pawoo accounts because I like the interface SOOOO much more than absolutely anything Mastodon has ever had to offer. ( you can CHOOSE your layout!!! I can actually have a layout that takes up my whole screen instead of tiny tiny columns! And color theme options are part of the core codebase!)

Still wish the federated services weren't dominated by microblogs but at least Misskey the least micro feeling of the microblogs.

That's so cool to hear about misskey's interface there; almost feels like the best of both worlds at least UI wise where it still technically federates with other instances (or at least has the ability to), versus not being constrained to the original base version. Perhaps something to look into if people go the self hosting route.... :o

Absolutely, yeah. so glad we have sites like this that are a much more calm bastion of stability than the other ones which can crack in an instant. it's going to be real interesting seeing which ones survive the 2023 shakeup...
