midway through knife of dunwall -
after accidentally killing enough to get high chaos in the first segment (fucking butchers and no void gaze!!!) despite trying to aim for low-chaos, all of these comments of ‘it may be too late for you daud, why try?’ ‘blood-tide’s rising, and you’re part of it’ ‘maybe you’re past caring’, etc
are making me
Extremely Goddam Emotional™
fuck you fuckers
daud’s trying his damnedest to redeem himself here, and YOU AREN’T HELPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
____
little dishonored gameplay things:
_feeling_ the difference between daud’s (lethal) takedowns and powers vs corvo’s; Billie wasn’t kidding in her journal when she said it was the quickest, most efficient killing that she’s seen.
brr.
(… in other news, the gloves have come off. it’s a high chaos DLC run now, whelp.)
dishonored update: replaying Knife of Dunwall on low chaos before I go into the Bidgemore Witches because (a) krad is a stubborn git and i want the ending i wanted dammit (b) the gameplay/architecture is hella fun © that last fight HURT MY SOULLLLL
(billie, the glorious dear, creamed my ass to the point when i had to switch the difficulty back on easy, lmfao. canon ending; she rules the whalers happily ever after, and makes out with her cute goddess-witch-girlfriend-of-doom what do you MEAN there’s a different ending….)
ay yi yi
I have more character-centric thoughts (oddly enough, Martin is getting a lot of my brainspace recently after reading some superb meta____
…… and finally, finally done with the bridgemore witches DLC. (and all that dishonored has to offer).
dang.
- oh god that was the hardest fking dishonored level ever, fuck u and ur leafy plant asses
- and especially YOU supposedly-turncoat-witch-who-was-supposed-to-give-me-hints YET YOU ATTACKED ME ON SIGHT WTF WAS THAT
- I PAID YOU!!!!!!
- (ahem)
- bend time lvl II IS THE SHIT HELLA YEA
- tied as The Moment That Killed Krad Emotionally™ was finding the completely broken overseer in the Manor … yeah. That one. The one that was apparently force-fed his dead comrades as a means of interrogating him which is … a whole next level of jesus fuck that is depraved. T____T
- (thank god i knew that the witches were coming to finish him off and was able to sleepdart the guy in time to save him .. after painting the walls red with the fuckers (with help from bby assassin whalers, thank u darlings), literally hauled the poor guy all the way out close to the entrance in a safe spot … he’s never going to be able to forget that shit but dammit i wasn’t going to leave him right in the middle of it all … canon ending: whalers get him out, he gets help from the abbey and ends up more or less ok)
- funniest moment: disabling two grenade launches pointed at a trap, thinking ‘eh, good enough’, tripping it - ‘KABOOM’ ‘all the yelling of FUCK as the witches a floor beneath go wtf’
- thoughts on delilah: i … hmm, she’s kinda in the same box as the outsider for me in that I don’t find them as (easily?) inherently fascinating as my usuals, but interesting pieces of meta and art (like this) definitely make them worth fighting when you’re thinking about it.
- (tbh i’m more interested in jess/sokolov’s (childhood?) friendship like hold yo horses i want to hear more about that - a girl-empress and a mad scientist dude being the tightest of friends, influencing each other, having decade-long philosophical arguments by letter, what kind of shenanigans do they get up to??? do they dream of taking over the universe?? did jess help him invent some of his things y/y??? like this is exactly the type of rad nutso genuine friendships i want to hear more about WHERE IS THE MATERIAL, YO
- (and i’m ever so slightly annoyed that they name dropped meagan/sokolov being friends too without a single fucking bit of explanation AND I WANT TO HEAR MORE ABOUT THAT TOO, DAMMIT .. it’s almost like it treats both of those friendships exactly the same when it’s like, c’mon guys, if I, an eccentric artist can have two totally different kinds of friendships with the exact kind of shy-but-wickedly-smart bookworms in my childhood and have all kinds of shenanigans, then SURELY you could at least insert enough fun stories about a RAD PIRATE ASSASSIN LADY and a mad scientist along with jess/his friendship …. ghhh
- (u will pry good friendship stories out of my COLD DEAD HANDS)
- ….. that was a bit of a tangent oops
- …. aND ANOTHER THING WHAT ABOUT JESS/DELILAH FRIENDSHIP STORIES LIKE SERIOUSLY THEY GREW UP TOGETHER AND SHIT, PAINTER WITH WITCHY INTERESTS AND AN EMPRESS WE COULD’VE HAD IT ALLL
- (ok i’m done there i promise)
- thinking back on delilah - part of it is that it’s a DLC so we have limited time/space/$$$ to devote to a character that is at least as well rounded as any of the major characters in the main game - but i always felt like there was a slight theme of … fairy-tale elements around her? that really could’ve made her a standout if it was embraced a bit more??? like with the plant voodoo (how even does that magic work?), the skull-hounds, the glowing flowers (makes me think of fairy rings, maybe she owes a fairy a favor idk), her coven, how that totally different dimension of power would interact with the outsider other than ‘yo her shit is dangerous and she’s kinda interesting but whatever’ from his (their?) point of view, etc, etc…
- a funny note: i love how literally every single important interaction that daud has in his dlc is with a lady (and one that’s either giving him orders or giving him a hard time) - like literally, every. single. one. IT’S THE BEST. lizzy, billie, timesh’s niece (who is a badass), abigail, delilah, delilah’s entire coven, jessamine from her grave, even ….
daud is a whipped dude, pass it on
- speaking of daud, that low-chaos end was Definitely The Other Moment that killed krad right in the feels ;a;;;; it’s as if the arkane team heard ‘so krad digs the villainous types who totally knows and admits that they’re too far gone for anything and yet who try to make up for it anyway because dammit, why not (plus a lil’ well timed guilt)’ WORD FOR WORD and made this entire fking thing for me like … bless u team
- i will probably have more words on daud’s entire arc (because y’all know how predictable i am), but that’ll have to be later
- because
- WHY
- IS
- THIS
- SO
- LONG ALREADY???!
what i like about martin:
- sass
- high likelihood of having a wolfhound pupper
- vain as heck (have you _seen_ his poses around the pub)
- more sass
- cripplingly deep nihilisim and self-loathing (partially due to outside status as a morley) that - oh hey - was actually there all along, but was hidden all the way up until the very specific high-chaos ending when he did not give a good-goddamn-shit anymore
- (fatally so)
- has a streak of ambition and cruelty almost as deep as the above
- endless sass
- fiercely independent
- reverts to being an actual petulant child while bickering with pendleton
wears that overseer uniform damn well- charming manipulative spitefully evil bastard
… whelp
