A good example [of color with emotional impact] for me is the color of the sky in the Middle East. From the orientalist painters, I can immediately tell who has actually been to the Middle East. At times, there is a very strong tint of blue in the sky over there. This specific tint of blue immediately transports me to high noon somewhere in the mountains in Iran. I can feel the strength of the sun and the stark contrast with the coolness in the shadows. Amazing what colors can do, no? Except this effect is lost on those who don’t share this experience. To them, it is just another blue sky!
