kradeelavi was talking with somebody about the nutty levels of school surveillance now vs back in my day which made me remember a truly hilarious tangential story back in the day...
so like, early 00's. people were Weird about ""health" stuff.
not always sensible 'moderate amount of veggies are cool, moderate amount of exercise is cool if you can to get blood moving n shit' baseline stuff, but occasionally hiring outside consultants for one off sessions with a class (i strongly suspect somebody was given a sweet payout for those).
anyway, the school hired one of these outside consultants to do a BMI test on all the kids and then did this truly bizarre public lineup where he did the math in front of you and then said the number in front of everyone (clearly a brazen shaming/intimidation strategy).
then he got to me.
me being me who had gone through an infinity amount of Actually Serious medical bullshit already and knew a hack on sight, i chewed him out publicly and as eloquently as you'd expect a tiny shrimp of a seventh grader chick in a walker before he could even start his spiel. :D
along the lines of 'dude. for real. look at me. do you think your math is going to work on somebody very clearly outside the average (for reasons way outside of health stuff aka the underlying bone/height structure is Fucked). ' (it helped i already knew BMI ""math" 101 and was extremely skeptical)
tl;dr; bring it fucko
alas, he just kinda sorta awkwardly bobbed his head in agreement and moved right along the line .... lol
thankfully i think the school learned cuz i never saw the dude/heard BMI mentioned again.
belatedly realizing in hindsight i have quite a few of these 'your rules are bullshit, the only authority i have actual respectful fear for is my parents' stories lololol
