i'm really close to pulling the trigger on a high-end steam deck for the holidays. thinking of it as a nice 10+ year investment on games since i've been historically locked on Nintendo consoles (aside from a brief PS3 excursion in college). the final bits that convinced me is:

a) it's apparently got emulation capabilities and built off of linux so even when i burn through the "big" titles, it's effectively a permanent library if the storage is big enough and might give my (also linux) laptop a bit of a break. (fe:fates revelation on the big flatscreen tv??? hell yes)

b) speaking of, having a way of playing PC titles on the TV with a gamecube/switch controller? so worth it alone for that reason.

c) it'll be a great way to complete 4chan's top 150 games of all time challenge which is genuinely something i want to try to accomplish. finally getting a chance to see what classic Halo is all about? dishonored 2??? RDR2? poggers.

between that and the recent gamecube + emulation spree i am set for life with games lol. anyway, games on the wishlist so far:

- elden ring
- W40K rogue trader (< there are so many characters that look so compellingly thirsty lol)
- fallout 4 (nick valentine omg!)
- sekiro
- halo master collection
- metal gear solid V (and peace walker if I can manage it)
- the witcher 3
- god of war
- baldurs gate 3??? maybe? (ZEVLOR HERE I COME <3)
- red dead redemption 2
- mass effect 1 (< never got a chance to play that one vs 2 + 3)
- dragon age 2 (hated inquisition but heard good things about DA2)

- (already in the library), kotor/kotor2, portals, half lifes

frankly I'd put peace walker ahead of mgsV if that's feasible. I haven't fully played mgsV, but it's paced painfully and I hear tell that after a certain threshold you can really tell it was rushed out the door, whereas peace walker is a solid dose of excellent gameplay wire to wire

OH GOD THE STEAMDECK IS SO FUCKING GOOD FOR EMULATION I RECCOMEND IT 1000 PERCENT. get the cheapest model and a good microsd, tho tbh most emulated games are super tiny....

i literally emulate modern sw*tch games on my brothers steamdeck, its how ive been playing unicorn overlord...........(i think you should check it out btw) its very good for wat u wanna do w it

(and i second the above comment, mgsv is a pain to get through, plus peacewalker adds SO much to mgsv so u should play it before v.... if you can handle dithered graphics, grab the psp version of peace walker. xbox emulation is a major PITA, and ps3 emulation is even worse.... tho my brother got the xbox version working, not as well as the psp version...)

I am a big fan of my steam deck. Multiple people can use it as well if you have someone else who wants to play games on it, you sign in and out of the specific steam account. I personally prefer playing games with controllers and don't always want to sit at my desk, so it's perfect for gaming on the couch.

you should play dragon age 2! super good characters! knight commander meredith is so hot! fyi, it might work on a non-gaming computer too as that's how i played it back in the day (around 2014/15) so long as it's not too bad. heck, i played inquisition on that laptop too. but. uh. as a power point, if ya know what i mean.

dragon age 2 characters are just genuinely messy in the best possible way. inquisition (a game i love, and i do think is better than 2 in some ways) is just missing a little of that grimy charm and solid story that 2 has.
