Part of my resolutions (posted on access lock) for this year was figuring out a better balance of not reflexively checking SM as much since I genuinely enjoyed staying offline for a week back in November (and it's starting to become a problem again with me being active on bsky).

Different methods work for different people - setting timers for limited time on SM doesn't really work for my brain since sometimes i actually do need to break it to find a reference pic. but i did find a cool firefox extension that makes the browser all greyscale!

(having only firefox be greyscale is perfect since it lets me draw and read on the laptop uninterrupted, which I don't mind; it was only the internet that was the issue. it doesn't stop you from looking at the sites but it makes them comparatively less interesting; I already find myself picking at the reading list more in the 30 minutes of trying it out. smaller frictions rather than going cold turkey, etc.)

i know there's a way to do the greyscale mode thing in your phone, too, if that's of any interest—Bird Guy's had it enabled for a while now~

haha yep, had a lot of fun finding the Seekrit developer mode (felt like trying to find the konami code) to do the same on android. thankful that most phones across the board let you do this! feels like a good happy medium of 'usable when necessary at all times but old-school friction enabled'.
