kradeelav: Dr. Kiriko (amused)

i love how ubuntu bugs are 'haven't reset the laptop in three whole ass weeks, keyboard mysteriously doesn't work until you hit enter in textedit a few times, probably firefox again' versus 'sneeze in photoshop on mac and it has a kernel panic' :P

anyway. the point of the post is elden ring. probably the most complimentary review of the game is 'don't expect to accomplish anything for a month and a half if you start'. (which is not a negative by any means, just a fact of the matter.)

here's possibly the last loveblog post on it ~

* i have ... three "areas' left in the base game to go through, i think (subterrenean-shunning-grounds, haligtree, farum azula). i can tell i'm getting distracted with IRL stuff (and kinda need to focus there) so i'm probably going to make a beeline through those three areas this weekend and then put this aside for a while.

* that previous loveblog post about elden ring having different risky/conservative gameplay styles is still kinda true, but i notice that sometimes laziness wins out when i switch to my faithful +19 longbow+serpent arrows and utterly melt bosses. basically inflicting "status effects" is what can really cheese the game from mid-game onwards since the biggest "hardship" is bosses have an enormous health pool compared to you. it usually takes at least 20-40 hits for them to die versus 2-3 hits for you to die. status effects include frostbite, poison, bleed, rot, etc - and most effects chunk hella giant chunks of their healthbar off, making the fight a little more fair in terms of your damage vs their damage. for example my main weapon right now is hoslow's whip which inflicts both bleed and frostbite, and on the offhand i have a fire-based whip and every enemy is weak to at least one if not two of those elements.

* speaking of bosses: fuck the valliant gargoyles with a cactus lmao. i had more issues with them than major bosses.

* story wise i am about to burn the erdtree.... and i shrug. it's a neat lore filled story, i had fun watching a lore theory youtube but it's not going to Infect My Brain like several fire emblems have. :P the most fun i have here is the sheer exploring and that's kind of drying up. still think i'm going for the frenzied flame ending (bad/chaos ending just because it's so fucked up and this game is kinda depressing as balls to begin with and takes itself a little too seriously lol).

* i'm not also really keen on how many daughters die (or potentially die) in this game if imma be honest. like i guess it's sad but after the third or fourth one i'm like. lol. can you get more creative.... pls.....

so yeah i'm gonna speedrun to the end before i burn out on it.
