dead dove meme
Mar. 2nd, 2025 12:04 amthere was a really fun dead dove meme over on bsky that i debated on answering there (original by peachinash), but ultimately putting up here since so many of these answers deserve nuance. tagged indirectly by two dear off-site friendos! <3 you know who you are.
oddly: no real content warnings though general dead dove is discussed.
1. How did you get into dead dove content? historically, a large part of my creations have come from the "wouldn't it be hilarious/metal/whack if X in fiction happened?". even early on as a child I wasn't particularly scared of exploring dark ideas in fiction; the distinction between that and real life was always obvious to me. in that sense, i do think going through the number of surgeries I did early on (and being close to bedbound) made it mentally necessary to go beyond "acceptable" regions of fiction to even find something similar to the emotional intensity I was feeling. hard to grapple with very isolating and very visceral traumatic sensations in every sense of the word when you don't have the language for it, you know?
now, that said, i think struggling with fashkink later as a teen and the assorted baggage is what (forcefully?) expanded my language and made me reach a strange peace with it. more on that later.
2. What's your favorite type of dead dove content? much like my general attitude towards fanwork, as long as it's compelling and well executed from a technical sense, there's a high chance I'll be game for it. I do have a personal consistent weakness for age gap ships, coercion, and weapons play though. :)
3. Were you ever against dead dove content? i was a religious fundamentalist (with the unfortunate homophobia) for a while early on but interestingly I would not have called myself a modern anti or to my memory ever harassed anyone. the worst that ever happened was me raising a slightly unrelated topic (re gay marriage) on a nintendo game forum which ironically led to an incredibly nuanced talk with gamer bros rightfully pointing out the ethical/logical/emotional inconsistencies to what I was saying.
i miss them and that type of openness, honestly. that one talk steered me down a path to being a much kinder and more emotionally curious person than I was, and is the reason why i think spaces to have that kind of conversation is so critical. shutting out that spectrum of allowing people to voice new ideas ... never strikes me as a good idea, no matter how well intentioned against harm.
4. Do you make dead dove content - if so, what do you make? my start was probably hellsing-related NSFW artwork (gunplay, D/s, bootlicking, etc) back on tumblr/twitter in 2018 when i made a deliberate focus to shyly explore that. that evolved into slightly more general uniform/fashkink until I made my peace with that (the taboo carries more heat when you have more guilt). currently into a fandom ship that has a flotilla of dead dove kinks and happily playing in that sandbox. :)
the evolution's pretty clear to see on my art archive here.
5. Have you ever been harassed for liking it? This is the absurd thing: no (unless if you count all of two hate mail messages over the course of a decade and some probable subtweets which I don't; those are just your standard trolls.) I've made dear friends with some of the people who got the infamously and well publicized nasty harassment campaigns. I've written up one of the only(?) widely shared guides for mitigating harassment campaigns. i will continue to quietly support very controversial artists/creators particularly my trans/queer friends. i personally would categorize myself as very high risk for getting a harassment campaign, and frankly think it's long overdue. for some reason it hasn't materialized yet.
6. What's your least favorite type of dead dove content? I have my personal squicks like everyone (medical-adjacent stuff is the largest swath), but I wouldn't.... consider that my answer. I think my least favorite is "shock" artwork (typically created by gore edgelord artists who also funnily enough are some of the most vocal harassers of other dead dove creatives, particularly those who explore sexual themes.)
7. Tag your favorite dead dove creator. So many! see the links page on my site for a good selection. :)
8. What appeals to you about dead dove? While I ... don't think dead dove inherently makes better artwork, I personally find it more interesting automatically on average. It has a way of usually intending to say something beyond itself or beyond a simple anime pin-up pose which unfortunately counts as a lot of artwork these days. i also like my art iddy and not afraid to be sleazy. :)
9. Are you more fandom oriented or original content? regrettably fandom oriented; original characters and I have a difficult relationship.
10. List your top 5 favorite kinks? Mm. My top 5 to read are different than my top five to draw/create, honestly, and it depends on the mood. Some common tags: possession, daddykink, weapons play, coercion, caregiver kink, bootlicking, teacher-student, sex fantasies, forced orgasm, age difference, corruption, villains, etc etc
11. Dubcon or noncon? it depends on the context, but I'm always a sucker for coercion-(kink) which usually falls under the dubcon bucket. I do love a captive-(or possession)-oriented noncon setup though.
12. Any type of favorite incest. daddykink.... >_> old men just hit different.
13. Are you still ashamed about being into dead dove? no; the only thing I truly felt shame over was the struggle with uniform/fashkink. not entirely a bad thing; i think it's a third rail extreme thing to discuss for a reason, and not to be taken flippantly. funny thing is at its most base core it's honestly not very deep; uniforms (particularly nazi uniforms) in a kink context makes the ladyboner go brr for a variety of reasons - the most "taboo" authority with good reason to hate me with sexual power, already with a bunch of other visual kinks encoded in it (boots, guns, interrogation play, etc.)
i wish i didn't have it. there was a span of time where i honestly thought about ending my life over it. that's probably the biggest reason i fight so hard (and perhaps oddly so) to maintain a small space for like minded friends to explore this in peace without harassment, particularly our circle of dears who made nazine into a thing. i have spent many, many years privately debating and soul-searching within myself about it and ... ultimately i'm at peace for how i'm publicly handling it. i think i've wrought enough good (reducing lasting shame for countless people, making some banger kink artworks) from something controversial that i refuse to be cowed on the basis of guilt-by-association. personally my response feels like the genuine spiritual opposite of fascism at its core.
14. What dead dove content are you most embarrassed about being into? honestly never felt embarrassment. ethical shame for a specific cluster of tropes as mentioned above - yes. embarrassment - no.
15. Are you scared about liking dead dove? Not scared, but rightfully mindful and slightly paranoid about taking steps to reduce my chances of being doxxed. I've been described as being extremely reserved and hard to get to know, which honestly works for me since I'm an introvert and closet misanthrope, though i think kindness is a human duty.
16. Do you identify as profic/proship? no, because i think basing the argument against censorship strictly in a 2010-2020's fandom context is asine and insult to fiction and history as a whole. (... there's also too many self-described proshippers who have harassed my friends for being "too extreme". heh. git gud fuckers.)
17. Do you like bluesky better than twitter with dead dove content? mmmm. strictly speaking, I actually think that twitter as of writing allows you to post more and currently has a more diverse selection of international dead dove artists. i like bsky's infrastructure with RSS feeds more (the main reason I'm on there at all). i -and this cannot be overstated- despise the culture on both platforms for conflicting and similar reasons (mostly for being ground zero for the most virulent harassers). the funniest thing is i got off of twitter in 2021 (unrelated to musk even though I rather despise musk also).
18. Any problematic ships? gunter/corrin <3 <3 <3 hot elderly caretaker daddy to his little dragon princess my beloved :3 the sheer amount of personal dead dove guilty pleasures those two pack is nuts.
19. Problematic faves? my brain's currently too full of gunter/corrin worms to answer that accurately ~
20. Why is dead dove content good for society? i think this post covers it more thoughtfully than I ever could.
