whew, lotta things happened recently!

* FINISHED THE GUNTERCORRIN DOUJINSHI 8D (technically the official release date is tomorrow but I'm stealth-launching the page to catch any major bugs before the big announcement). i'm also hoping to do a proper post-mortem in a separate post but u can buy this grandpafucking shizz i been working on for the last year! probably the last true "big" fates creative project of mine; still love the characters so very dearly but not "i cannot stop thinking about them for three years straight" hyperfixation levels you know?

* i got laid up briefly this past week by a weird self inflicted case of inflammation when trying out new coffee that disagreed with me (lol). while resting my back, burned through the jakarta method (sobering nonfiction read how the CIA royally fucked up developing nations with a major case study on jakarta) which i had in paperback, as well as trying to finish pleasure activism (ehhh), and thought reform and the psychology of totalitarianism (also solid sobering if academic read on how mao-era interrogation/torture fucks up people, part of my larger "interrogation/censorship" study). DNF'd the diamond eye that a parent's friend gave me (apparently i cannot do "historical fiction" because it wigs me so much how authors insert thoughts into real people that they themselves probably didn't think because said thoughts feel a little uhhhh twitter flavored lol).

* slowly playing through warhammer rogue trader, loving it the more i stick with it ~ for some reason i'm posting more about it on my tumblr inspo sideblog; no essays yet.

* speaking of that, got a long as hell fire emblem tellius meta essay in the works on its symbology (comparing and contrasting branded/laguz/spirit charmer marks, religious marks, heron script.) started off as a fun evening lark and quickly grew into.... uhhh.... something much larger. :D (i had been interested in this topic for ages since i've headcanon'd my self insert as a spirit charmer possessed by a demon so there's a lot of 'how do i connect this with canon in a way that respects the canon' motivation here, as well as a gigantic fondness for the base lore just by itself.)

* there are three art side projects i am REALLY excited about that aren't technically under NDA but i want to wait about a month for when I've made a little more progress before starting to talk/post about here. all of them are collaborations with cool as hell peeps <3 it's the kind of very narrowly defined, very niche collaborations i find i actually like doing (versus a generic anthology SFW call where i'm like 'what's the point of this again' lol.)

Lord, what a pet peeve. An author has to have such a specific voice to be able to get away with that kind of anachronism with me, and it has to be a bit cheeky...

I simply make a little (: face. Also, yeah, can I just say I feel you, deeply, on the generic SFW anthology sentiment? I'm so glad it sparks the energy for some people, but I'm like listen... If I'm applying into a zine or anthology, it has to really evoke something, and I don't as often get that when I have to keep my mouth clean

ahhhh so delighted to hear so ;w;;;;; was pretty happy with the final product but there's always that natural smidgen of doubt when releasing something that something's not gonna make sense or the like LOL. appreciate ya for assuaging those concerns ~

Really enjoyable (and that lil x-ray shot... I tell you what!!). I feel like there's two kinds of references - the type that allude to another work that could enrich the experience, and the type where the work itself is lacking for not understanding the reference...it was definitely the former, makes me more excited when I finally crack into yrmr :3

GOD yes to the sfw anthology thing too - i think it's the thing where it's just so... /broad/ with both (sfw) and then by nature of the anthology bit where it's a haphazard mix of illustrations? at least nsfw ones can get grouped to specific fetishes or unofficial doujin rings which is even cooler. but lol good to know XD

Thank you thank you! Quite glad to be sharing one with Gunter hehe. There's something really fun about sharing a birthday with a character you like. It's been a good day, spent some time in Rogue Trader, having some very normal regular feelings about the companions I've picked up so far (...Abelard... hello, sir... (: ), and enjoying the structure of the combat system. Blade dancer is fun as hell.

(heh! I will take a look, I do love a good meme like that, and I've been wanting to talk more about my summoner outside of just here! EDIT... I have done the thing!)

you know, given how much you like FE too, i can see you taking quite naturally to RT's combat system; after Chapter 1 it really started clicking about how weirdly similar it is to FE with it's rounds of combat and all.

Hehehe Abelard is a hunk isn't he >:) there's some of his past that you learn in a almost-required plot event midway through Ch2 (where I am) that made me howwwwwwl laughing. I think you'll know it when you see it.

He is indeed great so far, and you know what I'm rubbing my hands together like a raccoon about? I have a feeling that is not the last time I see my betrayer, and I hope that next time? Look, obligatory caveat, torture doesn't work, whatever - I want to make him squirm. My RT is currently shaping up as "nice to children" and "nice to friends" and "devastatingly cruel to her enemies" so we'll see where the game let me go with that.

let me know if you have need of a spiel I've already found myself giving folks a couple of times re: spirit charmers -- about the ways that spellcasting is also tied to The Spirits in other FE settings. Tellius being the more self-contained setting it is, it's not necessarily playing by the same rules as any other setting on stuff like that, but it is one of the spots in Tellius worldbuilding where you can, if you're so inclined, just use broader tropes from across the series as a lens

oooh! if you have a meta essay already typed up or a dreamwidth post i can link to when i make mine, i'll do you one better and link yours in there :D think that context would be invaluable -- since you're right, FE's best read as a series.

I do not have a meta essay already typed up; I could just start ramblin' here and now, but you may or may not find it more expedient to dig up just me talking about it with folks on the Base Conversations discord server (stars roughly with me saying, well, "it's also common generally in Fire Emblem verses for magic to be tied to the spirits of nature" in the #greil-mercenaries channel)
