there is a lot i still really dislike about bsky -- the culture and the short form UI borrowed from twitter, also its tendency to ban certian artistic kink with a 'shoot first, ask questions later' mentality, but two things i have deeply enjoyed recently are:

a) it's by far the place i've had the most wholesome interaction with JP fans/artists.... one of my childhood 'made it' goals was to get noticed by JP artists, and hell, several of them have ordered my doujinshi....... :D;;;; like, legitimately, what an honor. to respect/remix something from their culture so well that they notice and appreciate it.

b) the ability to turn off *all* notifications except for replies/mentions is seriously a game changer \o/ i used to have an extension on twitter back pre 2020 specifically to remove numbers and this effectively does the same thing. doing that on both bsky/tumblr helps curb the worst 'check frequently' impulses so it's like returning to dA-era culture. poast art. reply to comments. give cute compliments. (don't read shit on there; i have a list specifically for only showing pictures/art from people who i follow). touch grass. etc.

Oh, what's happening with this? I don't have a very wide circle, so I'm wondering what's getting taken down?

b- oh, for real, this, and the lack of push notifications, it means I only check it when I'm bored (... don't judge me how much I check it at work XD)

oh it's been an issue on bsky since the beginning. long and short of it, how sites handle "third rail" kinks like lolisho and furry-feral specifically generally lets a good chunk of me and my buddies know how "actually" friendly towards kink art sites are in the long run and whether they're serious or not. (disclaimer, i totally get and sympathize how it's a squick for a lot of people, etc etc). i like keeping a pulse on how sites handle those since (beyond just affecting friends) it tends to predict later policy moves quite well.

bsky technically also bans BDSM/noncon in their TOS but they're very inconsistent with enforcing that as of right now. i fully expect them to crack down hard on it at some point in the next year though.

wiping out all push notifications is legit a blessing for mental health x) not everything needs to be pinging ya at all times kind of thing.

That is good to know, I'm a bit surprised I've not seen anyone affected by that, then, but I suppose it's just been luck. I also respect its being a squick but mm this is why I'm such a big fan of tagging so that at a much more reliable rate, people can avoid it, rather than its being forbidden, where if it does show up, it is far more likely to be a surprise (hello, it's my crankiness at folks failing to tag graphic violence and moderation much more seldom does anything about that, but sure, let's ban a sex drawing just for being sex - my double standard goes the other way XD)... Bah. Aggravating. Yeah, it's still young, I imagine moderation will catch up soon enough.
