unless if you count doing the effects for two artworks and checking work emails once

* it's really interesting how there's very little UI hints about which objects are interactive (elevator panels/switches) versus not; i'm thinking in contrast to mass effect where there's usually a lil' UI overlay that hints where the player can manipulate terminals. that's something i really struggled with in my 10 minutes of attempting to play half life; that lack of hinting (i didn't even know the suits could be equippable). visually i kinda like that lack of hinting, but as a player i'm usually frustrated especially with sci fi games. weird little case of 'game design marches on...' (also had a similar moment earlier when i kept dying in that introduction chapter when it was clear the game expects you to read the user manual, meanwhile user manuals haven't been a thing in at least 10+ years....
* "it's easy to forget what sin is in the middle of a battlefield" damn.
* kind of lol'ing this let's player prematurely detonated the remote control missile meant to deactivate the electric floor and none of the enemies did like. anything.... about that..... (if it were me as a game designer that'd be a 'game over, but try again immediately' tweak).
* okay, the lead-up hallway to gray fox' fight (first fight?) is chilling. that's some banger environmental storytelling with all the dead bodies and the washed out grey tones. i also appreciated the detail of otacon pissing himself when he's being cornered by gray fox. i mean, relatable. on the total flip side of the tonal switch, campbell's "that's the sickest thing i've ever heard.' (re: gray fox' experiments) hits totally differently with the language drift there of that word. ;D maybe campbell is a sick bastard who's all secretly 'fuq yeah war crimes'.
* speaking of campbell my mgs2 lore is really fuzzy but i can see how this game would make all the late-game 'your whole life is a lie' plot-twists of that one hit so much harder since this is such a similar dry run in a lot of ways. similar echo of bosses (vamp vs raven), levels, where the info is drip-fed.....
* omg snake literally gets the [pan up body] camera point of view from otacon. this is the gayest shit ever. <3
* i KNEW meryl was in the ladies restroom after that line from otacon, lol. and meryl, honey, there ain't no way you were working a desert eagle when you were eight, the recoil alone ..... (like even when *i* was fourteen-ish the recoil from a similar gun an ex-SWAT dude let me fire would have had me on my ass had he not been behind me and kinda sorta holding the gun around me. formative moment. what.)
* [ sniper wolf does her little finger claw scrape on snake ] uh. that's. that's a bit horny. meow.
* huh. is it just me or low poly liquid kinda looks like volgin? it's the silhouette. both of them have a flat boxy as hell head.

* hind fight is gorgeous. that rappeling down while being shot at? holy fuck. i actually have a hard time believing that was a PS1 game; the cinematics feel like right out of a PS THREE.
* this game is making me ship otacon/snake so muchhhhh ;u;;;; it's actually really hard for me to get into BL ships but this idk feels so genuine?? like otacon's super relateable and he's not smothery-affectionate, but he's not a weird tsundere masculine bullying-you-because-of-feelings affectionate, he's just going through the worst day of his life and trying to do the best he can and actually cares about this weird soldier that crash landed into his life beyond trying to interrogate him about his trauma or 'idk u have a mission'. there is a real high chance i'm going on an otacon/snake fic reading bender after this.
* jesus christ that moment when snake/otacon are talking about the missing stealth suits and when otacon's face gets REALLY CLOSE is a hell of a jumpscare.
* did you know kojima and co bult mini lego sets of the levels to test camera angles??? so dope!!!
