May. 27th, 2020 11:07 amfe:heroes is striknig me as .... an incredibly funner game than awakening. :D right below 3H in terms of favorites, honestly.
first 3-day impressions:
- the "story" is ... "lol", but the game's refreshingly honest in that it grabs you by the balls by the series real strength, the gameplay/grinding plus attachment to specific characters/designs. the replayability is excellent, having rotating banners honestly really works to keep you nabbing freebies....
- god it is already SO MUCH MORE FUN by allowing you to toss the units you hated and actually use some old favorites again. wanna do some valter fanart since i got him to 5star, and just got a 4star Naesala/Reyson to round out the birbs ... lua .... you'd be jelly of this team. :P
- starting to realize PoR/RD was a major outlier in terms of strength of characterization/plot; i have another essay in me somewhere how three houses really fumbled on a lot of the "craft" that made PoR god tier; limiting certain support conversations until after certain maps, bosses that span the whole game's arc (Petrine), queenlua's observation of "how the supports are limited" gives you clues, etc.
- genuinely surprised at how good the characterization/script is of oldies; like, Tibarn's quotes are shockingly RD-tier good??! it's table scraps, but at this point i wasn't ever expecting to get anything of PoR's cast, so it's a happy surprise rather than poop on a platter. God the artwork's beautiful too.
- hearing serenesforest mention wanting a daein banner and jill being the most wanted character by objective NoA standards made me >;3; gotta save up dem orbs...
- the "strategy" is not so much bigger maps but building your crew and really knowing the ins-and-out of skills - skills almost beat stats in terms of importance here which is taking a while to figure out lmao. also raking in feathers through "forging bonds" aw yiss.
