two (soon to be three) zines actively selling on the shop, two collabs in progress, and 2-3 more solo ones in the pipe, and I'd say the "pivot to zines" plan was a massive victory, one year later.

as mentioned elsewhere - finishing projects is my greatest weakness, so to see this take off is gratifying.  I don't have the endurance (or patience) for webcomics, and yet doing single illustrations never ... quite appealed to me; there was never enough room to really flesh out the body language, you couldn't draw a whole conversation.  Stumbled on the "strip" type of illustrations almost by accident back when I was in the Republic Commando fandom, and while that was closer to the answer, it's clunky to read online, and is even more ephemeral than single illustrations you could print out, if possible. (If one of the images is missing, good luck connecting the dots to see what happened!)

The way i see it, zines are a finished physical, packaged, experience

There's far more abstract freedom in terms of theme or content - it can be a sketchbook with no rhyme or reason, or a specific mini-comic, or cathartic vomiting on the paper.  The creator accessibility is near a non-issue if you stick to what a 11x17 b/w printer can do - so there's also the freedom to go full depraved with kink zines too, no not having to worry about what a printing company does or does not allow.  It trades practical length and maybe a little bit of quality for complete home-garage control from start to finish, and I think that's what I've been looking for for a long time.
