kradeelavhad an 'eureka' moment last night figuring out the concept for both WHAT GREATER SIN and KILLING EDGE doujins!
thanks to chira, i've been playing with some ways to ""think"" more (and track) the birds eye progress of both of these so it's not just 'a collection of pretty images printed' in a random order; the best doujins imo have some sort of underlying meta-story that's never quite explicit (unless if the author mentions it in the intro or something), but still ties it together in a continuing series of 'yes, and-'
"Killing Edge" if you know FE, is an obvious nod to zihark's starter sword in both games and an easy pun off of "cutting edge" fashion (eg, sticking him shamelessly in some sharp suits).
that said, the eureka: given this is a fanservice doujin "first" and he's an interestingly paranoid character, i want this to spiritually capture the feeling of 'on the edge' - aware of being watched, observed, and playing/teasing that in turn. (IMO he's a very metatextually aware character.) was thinking last night on what the best fanservice feels like to me, and I really enjoy it when it's whump-adjacent, and slight embarassing/humorous situations where fanservice is an ironic subtextual element, or played with.
KE needs to be a doujin where you have the reader-character awareness, and *then* you have the artist-character dynamic as the muse, playing out an subtextual in-joke of (our) own. all very winking-around ~
re-read some doujinshi/artbooks i love that are fanservice-adjacent (there's a loose story to the illustrations but it's 'the artist has a fetish lol, and this is the excuse to draw it' vibe) and what made them work (imo) is the fanservice dude was always a foil to something "else" rather than being the the main spotlight; made it come alive in the irony rather than just... being a series of pretty pictures.

WGS in hindsight makes total sense as a chronological doujin off of alucard's time with integra, with the title being a nod to a poem that feels very succinct to their relationship (temptation, taboo, their complicated dynamic with religion, etc). I'll start it off with a new strip at her youngest, it'll blend into the one you've seen, then Fealty, then ending with integra at her most mature with some of my older cleaned-up strips.
