my last "what have i been up to" post was in ... may, I think?  let's hear it for this summer ~

* did I forget to post the YRMR [Epilouge] comic here? either way, finished that one! I don't personally enjoy it quite as much as DEAD IS CALLING but i think that's the fluffier/lighter tone and also because the inking style was *too* tight/precise - it's too easy for me to get neurotic about it and spin wheels reworking it constantly.

* had 3 weeks or so of back-to-back crisis with a tree taking out the house utilities, family medical emergencies, and intense work crunch so a lot of my artistic momentum with the 2 in-progress comic strips got snuffed out there in the middle. life happens! i'm not fussed by it, it's a good opportunity to see what actually works in bringing the momentum back. (a lot of this year has been figuring out what works for me project-management wise and focusing on consistency of getting Shit Done). i've also been taking the time to catch up on penpal cards as mentioned in an earlier post and to finish the holiday card for this year so it's not wasted time.

* of the two in-progress comic strips: I trashed/archived all the progress of the gunter/corrin one because the art was honestly mediocre (with the blurriness of my eye i was far too "timid" for what the comic thematically needs). i also deleted a lot of the new urasawa-style additions in the feh strip. it's not terrible but i am learning it absolutely kills my momentum stone cold to pivot to a new style halfway in between. i have got to quit doing that.

* briefly updated my [irl_handle] portfolio site and met a few recruiters in a fit of 'i really need to dip my toe in the water again' but wow the current job market sucks ass. :( doing one or two contract graphic design things just to flex around there, but i don't think i'll pursue that much longer - i much prefer working on the website or drawing, and regrettably this contract agreement was more me saying yes than thinking it through lol.

* had the last secondary cataracts procedure this past week!! with luck, that's the last of the cataracts business. I also haven't been drawing much the last month because of the blurriness in the last eye so I have a sneaky feeling the next two months will be nothing but DRAWING MARATHON. i am still unfortunately. absolutely unhingedly obsessed with gunter/(corrin) so there will be more naked ossans lol (also maybe a spicy 10k fanfic??)

* on the flip side, very excited with last night's website breakthrough and how easy it was to implement ... the logs were the last biggest roadblock to moving hosts that i was honestly real intimidated about, so now i'm genuinely excited to get my art logs on my site with almost exactly the same functionality as tumblr which i thought was only a dream. <3

between all of that, next few months ought to be fun creatively. :)

I don't even go here but I wanted to express how good both of the Gunter/Corrin comics were? It's a level of quality that really shows how much time and thought were put into them, especially with the paneling and speech bubble placement -- I feel like those are small but fundamental things a lot of hobby artists tend to overlook in favor of the art itself, but the layouts were just so solid for both YRMR [Epilogue] and DEAD IS CALLING and it was just *chefs kiss*. That negative space, please!

aw thank you!! <3 something really clicked about figuring out how to do speech bubbles with laying out those strips in krita (versus other programs earlier) so i'm so tickled you noticed that specifically. sometimes going off of limited mental rules actually help create that consistency.
